A warm welcome to our new Executive Director, Robert More!
Parrsboro Creatives’ Board of Directors is pleased to announce the successful completion of its Canada-wide search for an Executive Director, and welcomes Robert More to the role.
“We are thrilled to have someone with Robert’s skills and breadth of experience join Parrsboro Creative”, said Michael Fuller, Chair. “His passion for the arts and his proven success in developing theatre in Canada aligns with our goal: to build a diverse cultural community to stabilize and grow the economy and population of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia. We are looking forward to the future and to working with Robert to make it all a wonderful reality.”
Robert is a cultural manager, director, playwright, actor and academic instructor. He holds a Bachelor and a Master of Arts in English Literature from the University of Western Ontario, where he is also an instructor.
In his career as a cultural manager he has held managing and artistic director positions with the Lighthouse Theatre Festival, Bluewater Summer Playhouse, Victoria Playhouse Petrolia and, most recently, with Presentation House Theatre. His professional interests include marketing, event management and fundraising, as well as community building.
“I am truly excited by the vision of Parrsboro Creative and consider it an honour to be part of such a vital project”, says More. “I believe strongly in the contributions artists make to the well-being of the country and in the potential of culturally oriented communities to herald a new era of socio-economic progress. To lead this initiative in the mesmerizingly beautiful setting on the Bay of Fundy is an added bonus.”
As a playwright, Robert has more than 100 professional productions to his name, including Dads! The Musical, which was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award and won the prestigious Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. As an actor, Robert has performed across the country, including at the National Arts Centre and Stratford, as well with the Grand Company.
Parrsboro Creative Arts Association is an initiative by a group of concerned citizens to revitalize the Town of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, and turn back years of slow decline due to the cumulative effects of lost economic drivers resulting from centralization, globalization and the resulting depopulation of rural communities. The establishment of a vital multidisciplinary arts community is seen as the key in the development of a vibrant cultural economy.
