8th Annual PIPAF Wraps-up

Successful Completion of the 8th Annual Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival

Parrsboro, NS – [June 23, 2024] – The picturesque coastal town of Parrsboro, Nova Scotia, celebrated another successful rendition of the Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival (PIPAF), marking its 8th consecutive year of artistic excellence and community engagement. From June 19 - 23, artists from across Canada and the United States gathered to capture the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region, culminating in a vibrant display of creativity and skill.

Throughout the festival, participants had the opportunity to explore and paint various landscapes, seascapes, and urban scenes, showcasing their interpretations of Parrsboro's unique charm. This year’s event attracted 31 talented artists who competed in various categories, demonstrating their mastery of plein air techniques and their ability to translate the essence of the surroundings onto canvas. A festival first, PIPAF introduced a youth category and welcomed Carter Noseworthy, a 15 year old Nova Scotia native, to compete amongst the juried artists.

"The Parrsboro International Plein Air Festival continues to grow in popularity and significance within the global art community," said David Beattie, PIPAF Chair. "We are thrilled with the caliber of artists and the quality of artwork produced during this year’s festival. The diversity of styles and perspectives truly reflects the beauty and diversity of the Parrsboro shore,  the Bay of Fundy and its surroundings."

Highlights of the 8th annual festival included Best in Show winner Patrick McPhee (Quebec) for his painting entitled “Sunset on the Bay of Fundy”, Christopher Behrs (Wisconsin) “At the mouth of the Moose” placed second and third was Christopher Gorey (Nova Scotia) “Ravine in Port Greville”.  The Best Seascape went to Jeff Williams (Oklahoma) for his painting “Low Tide”,

Best Youth went to Carter Noseworthy (Nova Scotia) for his painting “Island View”. Artists and attendees alike enjoyed perfect weather, local hospitality and a record number of people participated in the Quick Draw competition on the final day.

The festival’s success would not have been possible without the generous support of our local sponsors and partners. Their contributions helped create an enriching experience for artists and visitors, further establishing Parrsboro as a premier destination for plein air painting enthusiasts.

Plans are already underway for next year’s event, with organizers aiming to build upon this year’s achievements and continue fostering a vibrant artistic community in Parrsboro. Unsold paintings are available online at the Parrsboro Creative website.
